YOUR BROWSER, EXPLAINED

Cookie Policy

This policy explains the cookies and similar browser storage used by ChatCamp.net. Read it alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains account information and community content.

What cookies and browser storage do

Cookies are small pieces of data your browser sends back to a website. Local storage keeps preferences in your browser; session storage keeps temporary information for a browser tab. These technologies help ChatCamp provide access, remember choices and understand site use.

Cookies used by ChatCamp

The cookies below are set by ChatCamp itself. Sign-in and guest access cookies are protected from direct JavaScript access. Preference and visitor-statistics cookies serve different purposes from authentication.

Other browser storage

  • Appearance: local storage remembers custom colours and account-specific font sizes on this browser. Your saved site theme is stored with your account on the server.
  • Games: local storage may hold game progress, device bests, daily-word state and previously seen trivia questions. Some records include an account identifier in their storage key.
  • Temporary interface state: session storage supports greeting rotation, welcome-preview appearance and temporary GIF-picker draft state.
  • Welcome and signup reporting: session storage records broad source categories and whether an event has already been counted in this tab. The resulting server reports contain daily aggregate totals retained for up to 90 days. These reports are separate from the visitor-identifier cookie and its records.

Local storage has no automatic expiry set by ChatCamp and generally remains until cleared, overwritten or removed by your browser. Session storage normally ends when a tab is closed, but browser restore behaviour can vary.

Advertising and other services

With your permission, the public welcome page loads Google Ads tag AW-18509435643 to measure advertising visits. No Google advertising tag loads before acceptance or after rejection. Google can receive ad-click identifiers, browser/device information and your IP address. Personalised advertising is disabled. The tag does not load on member pages, sign-in forms, chats or guest galleries. Links to other websites lead to services with their own cookie policies. Hosting or security services may also operate outside the application; their storage can depend on the deployed hosting configuration.

Google conversion-linker cookies such as _gcl_aw may store ad-click information for up to 90 days. Google may also use its own cookies under its advertising policy. We store your choice in chatcamp_ads_consent_v1 for 180 days and a random page-view event identifier in session storage to reduce repeat conversion counting in a tab. A page-view conversion is a visit, not a registration or purchase.

Your choices

You can view, block or delete cookies and site data for chatcamp.net in your browser’s privacy settings. Clearing site data may sign you out, end guest access, reset preferences or remove locally saved game progress. Blocking sign-in cookies prevents normal account access.

Visitor counting, the owner-only visitor funnel and aggregate reporting currently run automatically. The funnel records activity on the welcome, guest-entry and signup pages; it excludes signed-in browsing. The Cookie choices button on every page lets you accept or reject optional Google advertising measurement. Rejecting removes accessible Google conversion-linker cookies and stops future measurement. It cannot withdraw data already sent to Google or delete cookies on Google domains. This choice does not control the existing ChatCamp statistics described above. Browser settings can restrict storage, though this may also affect other features. Deleting browser storage does not automatically delete information already held by ChatCamp.
